GlucoMenu® Tip of the Day:
Care for your skin. Those with diabetes are at
risk for skin complications and infections. Poorly controlled blood sugar
levels can lead to increased urine output. This can leave you dehydrated
and at greater risk for dry skin. Reducing risk for complications starts
with monitoring and controlling blood sugar through your meal
plan, exercise, and medications. Consider these tips to protect your
skin.
- Care for cuts quickly.
- Keep skin clean and thoroughly dry off after bathing.
- Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, unless
otherwise advised by your doctor to limit fluid intake.
- Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about what type of
lotion to use to avoid dry skin.
- Steer away from soaking in water for long periods of time
and very hot temperature showers or baths.
- Contact your doctor if experiencing skin irritations.
